Outsourced, Full-Lifecycle Endpoint Management Enhances the User Experience

In our last post How DeSeMa’s Talent Appraisal Capabilities Take the Guesswork Out of Hiring, we discussed the challenges associated with endpoint provisioning and management as endpoint devices proliferate. Manual processes consume a significant amount of technicians’ time that could be better spent on business-enabling initiatives. User productivity is also negatively impacted, particularly for remote workers.

While organizations can gain efficiencies by implementing automated tools, endpoint provisioning and management remains a distraction. A better approach is to outsource to a managed services provider such as DeSeMa.

Our last point focused on the provisioning component of our endpoint managed services. Provisioning is only the beginning — our services span the endpoint device lifecycle, and cover PCs, laptops, mobile devices and fleet-managed cell phones.

End-to-End Solution

When we provision endpoints, we enroll them in your mobile device management (MDM) platform. We are very familiar with MDM and desktop mobility tools, enabling us to manage enormous fleets of devices regardless of location. If a user works from home or a branch office anywhere in the world, we can manage that user’s devices as easily as anything in the data center or the cloud.

This enables us to remotely handle anything from the initial provisioning to ongoing updates. Through advanced automation we can perform operating system upgrades, reconfigure users, install applications and more. Through our vendor partnerships, we can also handle same day physical hardware repair or replacement using local resources.

Let’s use a worst-case scenario as an example — the system’s main disc fails. The user can drop it off at their local iFixit location, and that company will handle the repair and coordinate the warranty coverage with the manufacturer. The user does not have to ship the device to us, so downtime is minimized.

Maintaining Control

Once the repair is complete and the system starts, the BIOS will remember that it’s one of our devices. It will connect to the Internet, locate the MDM platform, and gather the operating system, settings and applications it needs to bootstrap itself. It will also restore any of the users local files and settings.

Additionally, we maintain granular control over applications. We can set up a marketplace of approved apps, including custom applications. For example, if you don’t want users downloading YouTube and consuming a lot of bandwidth streaming videos, we can prevent that. We can set specific controls that allow users to access some YouTube videos but not others.

All of this is provided for a fixed monthly fee per device. You’re assured of a set budget for your endpoints that enables you to reduce operational overhead while freeing up IT resources, enhancing security, and increasing user productivity and satisfaction.

How to Get Started

That last element is very important to us. It’s our objective to make the endpoint an easy user experience, as in the early days of leased cell phones. You paid the service provider a fixed monthly bill, and they replaced your device regularly and performed needed repairs and maintenance. Our endpoint managed services do the same thing, except they cover all the endpoints in your fleet.

As with all our services, we take a consultative approach to endpoint management. We will sit down with you to discuss your business needs and objectives, review your environment, and determine the various types of endpoints and how they are configured. We will also take time to understand your business processes so that we can develop a customized solution that best meets your needs.
